Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about choosing the right tires? Check out our FAQ for quick answers!

What is tire identification number and where can I find it?

The Tire Identification Number is the serial number and manufacturing date of your tire. Each tire must be registered with the manufacturer in order to be used for safety standard certification and for tire recalls. You can easily find the Tire Identification Number by looking at the tire’s sidewall. The serial code starts with “DOT” and followed by the 8 - 13 characters that represent its date of manufacture.

What is the proper load rating for my vehicle?

Automobile manufacturers run through some tests to know the maximum weight capacity of your tire depending on its size and pressure. Load rating is identified in alphabetical order and can be found on the sidewall of your tire. You have to look for the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of your vehicle which can be found in the owner’s manual. Then with the load index of your new tire, multiply it by four to get the maximum load capacity. You should get higher results than GVWR to get correct rating.

How to determine the tire warranty rating?

Online Wheels Direct will assess the overall tire warranty rating through the aspects of the following: tire components, tread life, conformity, balance, warranty period, and other notable manufacturer’s warranties that can be applied. Check the authorized warranty handout for more specific details.

How to identify the proper air pressure for my tires?

Since the proper air pressure is provided by your automobile manufacturer, you can check the tire information label and owner’s manual.

Is it fine to use two winter tires only?

You can use two winter tires but it would cause problems in the long run. It is highly recommended by the leading vehicle manufacturers to use all four winter tires for safe winter driving experience. Driving in winter condition is challenging when you are not using proper tires. When you install four winter tires, it can improve the handling control and balance of your vehicle. It is important to keep the traction at same level in order to avoid losing the traction control system.

How to know my tire size?

You can simply check the sidewall markings of your current tire and look for tire dimension. Tire size looks like: P215/65 R15 which includes the Tire Type, Tire Width, Aspect Ratio, Construction, and Wheel Diameter. If you are uncertain about your tire size, you can also use the Online Wheels Direct feature - Shop for Tires by Vehicle. By simply entering your vehicle model, we will provide available tires specifically for your vehicle. Then you may also choose for Original Equipment replacement or upgrade and other tire specifications.

How will I know which tire size suits my vehicle?

If you are not sure which tire size to get, simply check the sidewall of your Original Equipment tires or the owner’s manual to verify the size. You can search on Online Wheels Direct site for specific vehicle to get the appropriate tire size. You can modify your search if needed. Just always consider the tire diameter, speed rating, and other sidewall markings. You can also visit Online Wheels Direct distribution center or call our representative for assistance.
